Join us for a conference call series, organized exclusively for our Atlanta community, to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the U.S.-Israel alliance from the perspective of a leading expert and former U.S. diplomat.
The calls will be led by Dr. Scott B. Lasensky, who served as a senior advisor on Israel, the Middle East and Jewish affairs in the Obama administration from 2011-2017. He held two White House-appointed positions—in Israel, as the senior advisor to Ambassador Daniel Shapiro, and in Washington, D.C., as a senior policy advisor to U.S. ambassadors to the United Nations Susan E. Rice and Samantha J. Power (2011-2014). Currently a visiting fellow at Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), Lasensky co-authored The Peace Puzzle: America’s Quest for Arab-Israeli Peace (Cornell University Press, 2013). Born in Atlanta (to a Federation executive!), he has been a researcher at several leading American think tanks.
Calls are one hour each and participants can attend one or all session(s).

June 19 | Noon | When Uncle Sam Puts His Money Where His Mouth Is
Billions of dollars from U.S. government assistance go to Israel’s defense, but what about the tens of millions spent each year on social, peacebuilding and health projects in Israel? This call will focus on U.S. government grantmaking and highlight the many overlaps and intersections with American Jewish philanthropy.
